Analysis [5] The 2D Steklov Spectrum 5:00pm -
KT 207

The Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map is a nonlocal operator that naturally arises in the study of electrostatics and water waves. Heuristically, it maps the voltage measured at the surface of a conductor to the normal current density through the surface. In this talk, we discuss the sharp two-term spectral asymptotics for the DtN map on 2D curvilinear polygons, determined by the corner angles, edge lengths, and curvature near the corners. This answers three open questions posed in the works of Colbois, Girouard, Gordon, Levitin, Parnovski, Polterovich, Sher, and others. These results are based on a new scattering theory for the DtN map on asymptotically conic domains with Lipschitz boundaries in any dimension. This is joint work with Jeffrey Galkowski and Marcello Malagutti.

Geometric Analysis Learning Seminar [7] Pre-Talk 4:00pm -
8L Lounge

This pre-talk will introduce some basic ideas for studying complete noncompact three-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature using harmonic functions. We will focus on the geometry of harmonic level sets and explain how the Bochner formula, the Gauss equation, Gauss–Bonnet, and the coarea formula work together to produce useful geometric estimates.

Group Actions and Dynamics [8] Several results about Patterson--Sullivan measures for relatively Anosov groups 4:10pm -
KT207

We prove that Patterson–Sullivan measures for relatively Anosov groups are exact dimensional with respect to visual metrics arising from suitable Gromov models. For relatively Morse groups, we further show that the scalar Cartan metric is Gromov hyperbolic, and hence induces a visual metric to which the exact dimensionality result applies. We also prove that the associated Manhattan manifolds are $C^1$-regular, and deduce that the growth indicator is $C^1$ and strictly concave on the interior of the limit cone. This is joint work with Eduardo Reyes.

Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry [9] Some arithmetic aspects of the quantum connection 4:30pm -
KT 801

One can construct an A-model analogue of the Gauss-Manin connection using genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants, which also make perfect sense over fields of positive characteristics and p-adic fields. I will explain how arithmetic gadgets including p-curvature, Fontaine-Laffaile modules, and over-convergent Frobenii (conjecturally) arise in this context, and discuss certain extensions in the q-difference setting based on quasimap K-theory. This is based on joint works with Lee, Pomerleano, and Seidel.

Geometric Analysis and Application [10] Harmonic functions on three-dimensional manifolds 4:00pm to 5:00pm -
Kline Tower 801

The talk will present several properties of harmonic functions on three-dimensional complete noncompact manifolds with non-negative scalar curvature. Applications include volume bounds for geodesic balls, integral bounds for scalar curvature, and classification results.

Geometric Representation Theory Seminar [11] Spectral Action in Betti Metaplectic Langlands 4:30pm -
KT 207

Abstract: The metaplectic geometric Langlands program can be understood in two ways: as a twisted analogue of the geometric Langlands program, and as a geometric analogue of the Langlands program for covering groups, namely the metaplectic Langlands program. One of the key structures in the geometric Langlands program is the spectral action, which roughly says that the spectral side acts on the automorphic side, allowing one to spectrally decompose the automorphic category over the moduli of \check{G}-local systems. This can be viewed as a geometric incarnation of the automorphic-to-Galois direction.

One may hope that the spectral action carries over to the metaplectic setting, and this expectation was formulated by Gaitsgory and Lysenko under the name “metaplectic vanishing conjecture.” In this talk, I will discuss my recent work on constructing the spectral action in the Betti metaplectic context. I will focus on what changes in the metaplectic setting and on the categorical framework for studying factorizable actions of local systems of symmetric monoidal categories.

Analysis [5] The Dry Ten Martini Problem for Sturmian Graphs 4:00pm -
KT 201

“Are all gaps there?” - a question originally posed by Mark Kac for the Almost-Mathieu operator and later termed the Dry Ten Martini Problem by Simon - asks whether all gap labels predicted by the Gap Labelling Theorem are attained by the integrated density of states. For the Almost-Mathieu operator, this problem has been resolved in almost all regimes, and for Sturmian Hamiltonians it was recently answered affirmatively, with all allowed gaps shown to be open. In this talk, we introduce a geometric analogue of this problem for operators on discrete and metric graphs generated by Sturmian subshifts, where the aperiodicity is encoded in the underlying graph structure rather than in a potential. We study ergodic Jacobi operators on such graphs and compute their gap labels explicitly. In contrast to the classical Sturmian Hamiltonians, we show that not all allowed gaps are open. The missing gaps arise from a geometric mechanism rather than a dynamical one: the local structure of the graph produces flat bands, leading to unattained gap labels. Based on joint work with Ram Band.

Geometry & Topology [12] Pseudo-Anosov flows, hyperbolic geometry, and the curve graph 4:00pm to 5:00pm -
Kline Tower 221

In this talk, I will discuss a joint work with Samuel J. Taylor, where we consider embedded non-fiber surfaces in a closed hyperbolic 3-manifold transverse to a pseudo-Anosov flow. Utilizing foundational work on Kleinian surface groups, we connect the hyperbolic geometry of the surface to the dynamics of the flow via the curve graph. More specifically, the flow gives a pair of special multicurves on the surface, and we show that they are also geometrically distinguished, enabling us to extract geometric information, such as the position of short curves and the volume, from the relation of the pair of multicurves in the curve graph. Our result also connects to recent study of the geometry of endperiodic mapping tori.

Geometric Representation Theory Seminar [11] Quantum Harish-Chandra bimodules at roots of unity and affine Hecke category 4:30pm -
KT 221

Abstract: Classical Harish-Chandra bimodules are related to many objects in representation theory such as infinite dimensional representations of complex groups viewed as real groups, category O and character sheaves. The notion of Harish-Chandra bimodules for quantum groups was introduced in the works about topological quantum field theory of surfaces. I will mention some results about quantum Harish-Chandra bimodules at odd order roots of unity, connect them to affine Soergel bimodules and coherent sheaves on Steinberg variety.

Analysis [5] Stability of small BGK waves 4:00pm -
KT 201

Bernstein–Greene–Kruskal (BGK) waves are fundamental inhomogeneous steady states of the one-dimensional Vlasov–Poisson system, introduced in 1957. Despite their classical role, their stability theory remains largely open. The only known result is by Guo-Lin, who considered a special class of small BGK waves. In this talk, I will present a stability–instability criterion for small BGK waves bifurcating from homogeneous equilibria, determined by the behavior of the particle distribution near the separatrix.  This is joint work with D. Bian, E. Grenier and B. Pausader.

Learning seminar on Groups, Geometry and Dynamics [13] Discrete groups acting ergodically on the boundary. 2:00pm to 3:15pm -
KT 801

I will talk about the existence of bounded harmonic functions on hyperbolic manifolds and more generally locally symmetric spaces, explains how it relates to the fundamental group acting ergodically on the Furstenberg boundary, and discuss some new and old results about this topic . Based on joint work with Subhadip Dey and Mikolaj Fraczyk.

Group Actions and Dynamics [8] Finiteness of arithmetic surface bundles over the circle 4:10pm to 5:10pm -
Kline Tower 101

In joint work with Homin Lee and Nick Miller, we show that for a fixed genus g there are at most finitely many closed genus g surface bundles over the circle up to taking finite-sheeted cyclic fibered covers. We also show the more general result that for a fixed genus g there are at most finitely many (admissible) genus g surface group representations living in arithmetic lattices in PSL(2,C) up to conjugation. Our discussion will focus on motivation, examples, and how large tubes from the Arithmetic Margulis Lemma of Fraczyk-Hurtado-Raimbault help us establish the key results.

Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry [9] p-adic Siegel disks on K3 surfaces 4:30pm to 6:00pm -
KT 801

McMullen constructed automorphisms of complex K3 surfaces with positive entropy—and thus chaotic dynamics on a large set—that nonetheless have a Siegel disk: an open region on which the automorphism is holomorphically conjugate to an irrational rotation. Strikingly, such an automorphism forces the K3 surface to be non-projective, so McMullen’s examples cannot be written down using explicit equations. Instead they are obtained indirectly via the global Torelli theorem.

In this talk we construct a p-adic analogue: a positive-entropy automorphism with a Siegel disk on a non-projective rigid-analytic K3 surface over a p-adic field. Our construction produces the surface directly, without the Torelli theorem, which makes it considerably more flexible.

Geometric Analysis and Application [10] Positivity of simplicial volume 4:00pm to 5:00pm -
Kline Tower 801

I will discuss some recent progress on the positivity of simplicial volume for nonpositively curved manifolds. In particular, I will discuss (1) the relation between Euler characteristic and simplicial volume for 4-dimensional nonpositively curved manifolds, following work of Connell–R–Wang and Kim–Wan, and (2) the relation between isolated codimension-one submanifolds and positivity of simplicial volume, following work of Connell–R–Wang.

Geometric Representation Theory Seminar [11] The Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov equivalence over the integers 4:30pm -
KT221

Abstract: In joint work with Gurbir Dhillon, we prove a universal monodromic extension of Bezrukavnikov’s two realizations of the affine Hecke category over the integers. I will discuss some ingredients that go into to the proof of the Arkhipov-Bezrukavnikov equivalence in this setting. These include analysis of multi-graded rings, deformation between characteristic zero and positive characteristic, and the tilting property of Whittaker averaged central sheaves. The proof of the latter is based on ideas of Faergeman-Raskin and Bezrukavnikov-Morton-Ferguson.
