Event description:
- in the second lecture, we discuss an important problem of the analytic theory of L-functions: namely, the subconvexity problem (SCP) which is crucial for the solution of Linnik’s problems. Amongst other things we explain the method of moments and an important variant of that method: Iwaniec’s “amplification” technique. We also highlight the recent work of Venkatesh which solves many cases of the SCP by bounding of automorphic periods directly and explain some further generalizations of his approach.
