Effective density of rational points on varieties

In joint work with A. Gorodnik and A. Nevo, we study the
problem of Diophantine approximation on homogeneous varieties of semisimple groups. Using ergodic and spectral methods, we obtain optimal bounds for many varieties and display an explicit connection between Diophantine
properties of homogeneous varieties and the automorphic spectrum of the ambient group.
